VERNON ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Vernon community is mourning the loss of a beloved school district instructor who passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Vernon ISD officials said in a Facebook post that Gayla DeHoyos joined the district as a substitute teacher in 2002 and became a full-time faculty member in 2013. She was the ISS instructor for many years before becoming the librarian.

The district’s post continues by fondly remembering DeHoyos as someone who cared deeply about students and was always available to listen if anyone needed to talk.

The post said DeHoyos was the Lions’ and Lady Lions’ biggest fan, no matter the sport or activity.

Services for Dehoyos are Friday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at Leo Brittain Field in Lion Stadium.
