WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — For the fourth time in as many weeks, a man from outside Texoma is charged in Wichita County with online child sex crimes.

LOCAL NEWS: Police release victim’s name from I-44 fatal pedestrian crash

On Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, Brett Thomas Cox of Greenville, Texas, was booked into the Wichita County Jail on the second-degree felony charge of online solicitation of a minor. As of the publication of this story, he remains behind bars on a $250,000 bond.

The charge against Cox stems from March 2024, when a federal investigator informed local authorities of an online solicitation incident and requested assistance from the Wichita Falls Police Department with the investigation and arrest of the suspect.

According to the affidavit, the federal investigator provided WFPD officers with recorded online chat messages between himself and the suspect, who was identified as Cox.

Police said when they reviewed the chat logs, they observed that the federal agent had logged into a chat room named “Teen Dating in Texas” and posted a message to the group. Shortly after that, police said the agent received a message from the screen name “DownlowDom” and the username “bdiddydude.”

According to authorities, the chat quickly turned sexual, with the suspect giving details about what he would like to do sexually to a 12-year-old girl. Police said the agent sent the suspect digitally modified photos portraying a 12-year-old female.

The affidavit said Cox requested to meet in person in Wichita Falls on Mar. 7, 2024, then sent photos and a sexually explicit video of himself and stated that he lived in the Dallas metroplex area.

Police said during a later interview, Cox admitted to using the names “DownlowDom” and “bdiddydude” on several social media platforms, and police say he admitted to engaging in sexually explicit chats with what he believed to be a 12-year-old female from Wichita Falls.
