WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL )— The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank brought local artists and restaurants together to make sure as many people as possible don’t go hungry with the 12th Annual Empty Bowls event.

Donors flocked to The Forum to check out the different soups, drinks, and ceramics from artists and restaurant owners around Wichita Falls. The namesake of the Empty Bowls event is the bowl selection table, where local artists, mostly from the MSU ceramics program, make bowls for the donors at the event to take home.

Food bank CEO David O’Neil says each bowl taken home from the event is meant to have a deeper meaning other than supporting the cause of the food bank.

“The theme behind it is that Empty Bowls really signifies the need individuals have for food each and every day. And we don’t want any child, any senior, any family member to go and have an empty bowl,” O’Neil said.

With everyone sampling the 13 different soups available, people could vote for their favorites by donating cash or using the specific QR codes for each restaurant. There was also a silent auction for the more unique ceramic bowls.

Whether you donate for a winner or buy a uniquely shaped bowl, all proceeds from Empty Bowls go directly to the food bank and its future endeavors, keeping the bowls in Wichita Falls full.

Any extra soup from the event will be donated to First Step Shelter.
