WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Department of Public Safety is asking the community for help.

One of their very own sergeants and a local resident, Patrick Timms, was involved in a serious accident off Highway 79 earlier this month, leaving him with a long road of recovery ahead.

Patrick Timms has been with DPS for over two decades, and Sergeant Juan Gutierrez said he’s made a huge impact on the Texoma community.

“He’s very well known. That’s the name that when I was going around introducing myself to everybody, in these counties, everybody was asked, would, you know, you know, then you’re the little guy up there. And I said, who’s that Patrick Timms? And for those that don’t know Patrick, he’s, he’s a big man. He’s a, he’s a very big man. But yeah, now he’s very well known. He’s, he’s a pillar to this community. He’s always heavily involved with schools,” Gutierrez said.

But after suffering serious injuries after being involved in a wreck on Highway 79 on October 1, Gutierrez said Timms could use all the help he could get.

“Unfortunately, he had sustained a lot of pretty significant injuries during the crash. He had to actually get flown from the scene of the crash to Fort Worth to a hospital, where he was there for about a week. And he’s still dealing with a lot of those injuries, going through rehab and everything else. And he’s, he’s slowly getting back,” Gutierrez said.

A fundraiser is being held at the Elks Lodge to help with medical bills and other expenses related to the accident. Gutierrez hopes the turnout will be great based on the support he’s already seen for Timms.

“We’ve already had a phenomenal amount of people in the community, just different businesses and everything that have reached out and have provided a lot of stuff to go towards this fundraiser. And just goes to show you how many people knew Patrick, after this happened, after word got out. I mean, it was nonstop,” Gutierrez said.

The benefit will be held at the Elks Lodge, 4205 Seymour Highway, on October 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For just ten dollars cash at the door, you can get a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, chips, and a drink.
