    2024-05-15

Attention all meat lovers! Are you tired of the same old boring barbecue sauces that are lackluster and unimpressive?

Well, get ready to have your taste buds blown away because today we're diving into the delicious world of coffee-infused barbecue sauce, specifically for those succulent country style pork ribs.

That's right, we're talking about a mouthwatering combination of smoky and sweet flavors that will have you licking your fingers and reaching for seconds.

It only takes a few ingredients and about 10 minutes of hands on time and then you can let the slow cooker or pressure cooker do the work.

These Country Style Pork Ribs were so fall apart tender and flavorful my crew devoured them so I may have accidentally failed to mention there was coffee in the barbecue sauce.

    SEMI-HOMEMADE COFFEE BARBECUE SAUCE

Strong coffee added to barbecue sauce gives it a richer flavor and darker color.

No, it doesn't taste like coffee. At all. My guys would not touch if it did.

Instead it deepens the flavors of the sauce.

Coffee also does the same amazing things for chocolate. So if you are not a coffee lover you really want to pick up some instant coffee or espresso powder to have on hand to add to your barbecue sauce or chocolate cake.

THE TRICK TO THICK BARBECUE SAUCE

One problem I have with both slow cookers and pressure cookers is the sauce gets watered down in the cooking process which makes it blah to serve along with the meat. But, it is watered down with some great flavoring from the meat.

My solution: I added enough sauce to just coat the ribs to cook them. While the ribs were resting I cooked down the remaining barbecue sauce mixed with some of the cooking juices. Thick, rich, flavorful sauce. Mmmmm!

    Recipe

    INGREDIENTS

    • 3-4 pounds boneless pork shoulder country style pork ribs
    • 2-3 tablespoons rib rub or barbecue seasoning (our rib rub recipe in notes)
    • ¼ cup strong coffee (or ½ teaspoon espresso powder)
    • 1 bottle barbecue sauce

    INSTRUCTIONS

    • Trim about ¼ inch fat from the ribs and chop into small bits. Turn the electric pressure cooker to sauté (or in a skillet on the stove for a slow cooker) and cook down the chopped up fat until most of it has liquefied.
    • While the fat is rendering, rub the ribs with the seasoning.
    • Add the ribs to the hot pan and brown for a few minutes on each side.
    • Slow Cooker only: put ribs in the slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with the coffee (pour coffee into the skillet and scrap the pan to remove the browned bits of fabulous flavor).
    • Add the coffee and 1 cup of the barbecue sauce to the ribs. Stir to combine.
    • Pressure cooker: Cook at high pressure for 45 minutes and do a natural release.Slow Cooker: Cook on low for 4-6 hours (time will vary depending on the size of your cooker).
    • While ribs are resting, ladle about ½ cup of the cooking liquid into a sauce pan with the rest of the barbecue sauce. Cook for 5-10 minutes on medium heat to thicken. Serve sauce with ribs.
