This Wednesday, there will be a Ride of Silence through Abilene in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in cycling-related crashes in Taylor and Jones Counties.

The ride will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday with pre-ride ceremonies starting at 6:40 p.m. in the north parking lot of Radford Auditorium at McMurry University.

Taylor County Judge Phil Crowley will address the crowds as the guest speaker.

The Ride of Silence will consist of a 5-mile route around Abilene to remind motorists to share the road.

Since 2010, a total of 12 cyclists have lost their lives in crashes within Taylor and Jones Counties, according to the Texas Department of Transportation press release.

The Steamboat Cycling Club, in conjunction with the Abilene Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Abilene Police Department, Bike Town, TxDOT D.R.I.V.E. Safe Coalition, McMurry University and Abilene Bicycle Club, will welcome all cyclists to tonight's event.

This is Abilene's reminder to share the road and avoid another tragedy.
