Playoff recap: Ira baseball, three area softball teams clinch spots at state tournaments

The baseball and softball playoffs are nearing their completion but some Big Country area teams are continuing to keep their season alive.

Here's a recap of last week's action, including squads who will be going to state tournaments.

Baseball

REGIONAL FINALS

Class A

MORTON VS. IRA

One-game: Ira 11, Morton 1

Of note: Ira is on its way to the Class A state tournament in Round Rock after a stellar performance against Morton.

REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

Class 5A

WYLIE VS. ARGYLE

All games at Cleburne

Game 1: Argyle 12, Wylie 0

Game 2: Argyle 5, Wylie 4, Argyle wins series 2-0.

Of note: The Bulldogs' stellar season came to an end against one of the state's best baseball programs.

Class 4A

STEPHENVILLE VS. SEMINOLE

Game 1: Stephenville 5, Seminole 1

Game 2: Stephenville 4, Seminole 3, Stephenville wins series 2-0.

Of note: The Yellowjackets just keep winning, and will take on Canyon with a trip to Disch-Falk Field and the state tournament on the line.

Class 2A

NEW HOME VS. STAMFORD

All games at Snyder

Game 1: New Home 4, Stamford 1

Game 2: New Home 9, Stamford 3, New Home win series 2-0.

Of note: The Bulldogs ran into a Leopards squad that continues to impress on its way back to the state tournament.

ROPESVILLE VS. HAWLEY

All games at Christensen Stadium, Midland

Game 1: Hawley 6, Ropesville 3

Game 2: Hawley 13, Ropesville 3, Hawley wins series 2-0.

Of note: Meanwhile, Hawley was impressive in sweeping the Eagles. But is set to face off with New Home for the right to go to the state tournament.

Softball

REGIONAL FINALS

Class 3A

COAHOMA VS. IOWA PARK

One-game: Coahoma 12, Iowa Park 1

Of note: The Bulldogettes will have a chance to defend their state title and stay undefeated as they continue to knock off quality opponents on the way to Austin. Coahoma faces off with Whitesboro in the state semifinals next week.

Class 2A

FORSAN VS. ANSON

All games at Lamesa

Game 1: Forsan 8, Anson 0

Game 2: Forsan 10, Anson 3, Forsan wins series 2-0.

Of note: Forsan rolls into the state tournament next week and will take on Beckville in a state semifinal.

REGIONAL FINAL

Class A

HERMLEIGH VS. BORDEN COUNTY

All games at Abilene Christian University

Game 1: Hermleigh 7, Borden County 6

Game 2: Borden County 8, Hermleigh 3

*Game 3: Hermleigh 15, Borden County 14, Hermleigh wins series 2-1.

Of note: Hermleigh rebounds after a Game 2 loss to win a wild Game 3 and punch its ticket back to Austin. The Cardinals will face off with Neches at the state tournament.
