A longtime fan of Capriotti's Sandwich Shop will open his own location in Abilene, according to a media release.

Local entrepreneur Matt Farler is slated to open a new Capriotti's Aug. 27 at 3655 Catclaw Drive.

Farler frequented the sandwich shop while attending the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

“In college, Capriotti’s was more than a sandwich shop — it was a place of connection and comfort,” Farler in a media release. “I am so thrilled to be able to bring the franchise to the people of Abilene for the very first time . . . to the community that my family and I call home!”

Farler discovered his favorite sandwich, the Capastrami, during college, and Capriotti’s became a place where he and his friends would visit often. The Capastrami is crafted with hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and homemade coleslaw.

After college, Capriotti's remained Farler's favorite sandwich shop as he moved around the U.S.

He wanted to contribute to the Abilene community and knew there was no better business to bring to the area than his favorite sandwich shop, according to the media release. Farler's location will give Abilenians their first taste of Capriotti's.

The new location will introduce Abilene to Capriotti's 40-year-old tradition of slow-roasting all-natural turkeys in-house, as well as other unique sandwiches among the restaurant's wide array of offerings.

The sandwich shop is known for handcrafted cheese steaks, turkey subs and offers cold, grilled and vegetarian subs, and salads

The Bobbie, for instance, is made with fresh oven-roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo. The sandwich shop's cheesesteaks are crafted with premium steak, chicken, or Impossible plant-based meat and melted cheese, plus hot or sweet peppers.

In addition to its handcrafted sandwiches, the new Capriotti’s will bring new jobs to Abilene, according to the media release. Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop is an award-winning, national franchised restaurant chain founded in 1976.
