The driver of the vehicle, Brandi Deann Ross, 37, of Santa Anna died at the hospital due to injuries sustained from the early morning crash, according to a media release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Ross and a 7-year-old passenger were driving south on U.S. Highway 283 around 5:30 a.m. in a 2010 Ford Fusion, according to the DPS preliminary investigation. The driver struck a deer on the road causing the vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree 13 miles south of Baird.
