A man died in a one-vehicle crash Sunday near Hamlin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Daniel Delane Young, 51, of Aspermont died in the crash, according to a DPS media release.

The car accident happened at 5:07 p.m. Sunday about 5.5 miles north of Hamlin in Stonewall County.

The DPS' initial investigation found that Young was headed north on U.S. Highway 83, driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The vehicle veered northwest, crossed the southbound lane and drove off the highway.

The car ultimately hit a tree and caught fire, leaving the vehicle totally burned, according to the DPS. Young was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. by Stonewall County Justice of the Peace Darla Pearson.

Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kipp Koenig from Aspermont investigated the crash. He was assisted by THP Trooper Tommy Hill from Haskell and Stonewall County sheriff's Deputy Gordon Walker.
