Alleged scammer takes $20,000 from Rarity Bay grandmother

A woman, thinking her grandson was in trouble, paid $20,000 to an alleged scammer from Canada Oct. 16.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Detective Jason Filyaw said he talked to the woman, who lives near Vonore and she told him around 11 a.m. that day she received a phone call from a person she believed to be her grandson.
