Lincoln man runs over sister, flees to Pulaski County

A Lincoln County man was arrested in Pulaski County after he ran over his sister’s legs and fled the scene without rendering aid.

Sherrill “Chemo” Padgett, 58, of Waynesburg, was arrested on Aug. 17 by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies on several charges including attempted murder.

According to the arrest citation, deputies were dispatched to 170 Cemetery Road at about 11:56 a.m. for a report of a subject that had stolen a truck and run over a female before fleeing the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Padgett arrived at his sister Kim Yocum’s residence in an intoxicated state and the pair engaged in a scuffle over the keys to a truck.

Padgett ultimately took control of the truck and began to drive away from the residence.

“…the above drove over top of the female’s legs with the tires of the truck. The above fled the scene and continued into Pulaski County,” the arrest citation states.

Yocum received injuries to her legs and toes and the truck door and fender was damaged.

Padgett was later taken into custody in Pulaski County.

Lt. Michael Mullins conducted an interview with Padgett, during which he said he wouldn’t let his sister drive because she “drives slow.” Padgett allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine that day.

“He stated that he went to her house so they could go to the Dollar Store together. I asked why he ran over his sister and he stated that because she wouldn’t let go of the steering wheel. He stated that he didn’t stop and render aid because ‘they are after him,’” the citation states.

Mullins noted Padgett had large dilated pupils during the interview.

Padgett told Mullins he was “sorry for all of this” and stated he was a “screwed young man.”

Padgett was arrested and charged with attempted murder, failure to render aid, leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree criminal mischief, fleeing and evading (motor vehicle, operating motor vehicle under the influence, theft by unlawful taking $1,000 to $10,000 in value) and multiple traffic violations.

He was lodged in the Casey County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Deputy Ron Luster and Lt. Michael Mullins.

Luster and Mullins were assisted in the arrest by Bluegrass 911, Lincoln County EMS, Deputy Marcella Luster, Constable Delbert Mitchell, Deputy Butch Phillips, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and the Somerset Police Department.
