    MARLBORO TRUSTEES – Marlboro Township trustees next plan a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Marlboro Township Hall. Work sessions, also at Township Hall, are planned at 9 a.m. Oct. 16, to review resumes for the road superintendent position and to discuss ARPA Fund disbursements; and at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 and Oct. 24, both to interview candidates for the road superintendent position.

    AHS 1956 – Alliance High School Class of 1956 will meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 15 at Don Pancho’s Tex Mex Cafe, 2105 State St. in Alliance. All classmates, spouses and friends are welcome to attend.

    STARK STATE OPEN HOUSES – Stark State College invites students, parents and adults looking for a new career to attend its upcoming fall open houses. The events will be 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17 on the main campus at 6200 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township, or 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Stark State College’s Akron campus at 360 Perkins St. Guests can learn about admissions, talk with faculty and staff, learn about student services and resources and take a tour.     COLUMBIANA FLU SHOTS – Columbiana County Health District has announced drive-thru vaccination clinics for both high dose, for those 65 years or older, and regular dose flu vaccine (Flulaval or High-dose, Fluzone) as well as the newly released COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer/Comiranty). The clinic will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Columbiana County Vaccination Complex at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds. Vaccinations will be provided to those who register and are 18 years of age and older. To reserve your vaccine, call 234-564-7888 beginning Oct. 8. Registration will close at 4p.m. Oct. 17. The phone line will be open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. The health district recognizes most major insurance carriers. Cash or check will also be accepted for self-paying individuals. If paying by check, the account information must match the payer’s ID. If planning to receive a COVID booster, Columbiana County Health District asks that you bring your COVID vaccination card with you. Use the main fairgrounds entrance at 225 Lee Ave. in Lisbon. Signs will be posted, and attendees will be directed from the main entrance to the CCVC located in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds.

    ALLIANCE SYMPHONY – Alliance Symphony Orchestra will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 27 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts at University of Mount Union. Eric Benjamin, a music faculty member at Mount Union, will conduct the orchestra. The concert will feature a variety of pieces meant to evoke the sounds and feelings of fall. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors/veterans and free for all students. Student and child tickets must be ordered by phone or in person. Attendees are encouraged to order their tickets prior to the day of the performance. Tickets are available at mountunion.edu/boxoffice or through the Mount Union Box Office at 330-821-2565. The box office will also open for ticket sales one hour before the performance.

    CHURCH TREAT EVENT – First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St. in Alliance, invites area children through fifth grade to attend “Treats from the Ark,” an outdoor trick-or-treat adventure, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Children and their parents are invited to the Prayer Walk at the far east end of the church between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.   Halloween costumes are optional, but children should bring containers for their treats. Children and adults will walk through the woods of the Prayer Walk, where they will meet Bible characters, including Noah, Moses, Queen Esther and the good shepherd, who will identify themselves and distribute treats. At the conclusion of the walk, each child will receive a coloring book telling the stories of the characters they’ve met. Sack suppers will also be available.
