Rodgers seeks re-election to Covington County BOE

Jimmy Rodgers of Red Level is seeking re-election to the Covington County Board of Education Place No. 2, which is the Red Level district.

He is a graduate of Red Level High School and a longtime resident of the town. He is married to Susan, a graduate and retired teacher from Red Level, and they have one son, Michael, who also graduated from Red Level.

Rodgers is the only candidate for this position that lives in the Red Level district.

“With all the things that have been accomplished, it’s been very rewarding to be a part of the Covington County BOE,” Rodgers said.

Some of those accomplishments include the employment of a mental health professional and the development of a mental health counselor program for the county schools, working with Sheriff Turman and the County Commission to add two additional resource officers to the schools, and expanding the arts program with two full-time teachers.

The Covington County BOE is also preparing students for the future by working closely with the community college system to help graduates learn a trade through the “Skills for Success” program. Students already have been certified as skid-steer, bulldozer and mini-excavator operators, and these efforts are helping build a skilled workforce in the county and region.

The vision of the superintendent and board is to prepare students for the future, whether it’s continuing their education or joining the workforce.

Rodgers has served as the State District 3 Director for the Alabama Association of School Boards for two years in addition to his local position, and he has the experience and integrity to continue making good, sound decisions to benefit students on the state and local level.

“I’d be honored to continue to be a part of the decisions involving the future of the students of Covington County,” Rodgers said. “So on March 5, I ask for your vote for Covington County BOE Place No. 2.”
