    CCBOE approves nine personnel matters, accepts bids for projects at three schools

    The Covington County Board of Education approved nine personnel matters including six retirements from four schools at a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 2.

    During the meeting the board approved the following personnel matters:

    Retirement

    • Kristin P. Hildreth as reading specialist at Pleasant Home School effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Amanda K. Gunter as teacher at PHS effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Melissa P. Nall as guidance counselor at Red Level School effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Jenny Henderson as special education teacher at RLS effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Jill S. Smith as teacher at Straughn Elementary School effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Kathii E. Lovelady as teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year

    Resignation

    • Noelle L. Perrin as bus driver at Fleeta Junior High School effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year
    • Veronica Hughes as special education licensed interpreter with Covington County Schools retroactive to March 20

    The board also approved a one-year leave of absence for Malissa S. Hester, occupational therapist for CCS. Hester’s leave will begin on July 15, 2024, and end on July 14, 2025.

    In other business:

    • The board accepted a bid for $123,225 from Mobile Fixture and Equipment Company of Mobile, Alabama, for new stainless steel serving lines in the cafeterias at FJHS and RLS.
    • The board accepted a bid for $415,000 from Walker Construction for a new entrance canopy and vestibule at Straughn Elementary School. This item was approved during an emergency-called meeting held on Thursday, April 4.
    • The board heard a distribution of financial reports that have been reconciled to most current bank statements from Chief School Finance Officer Ressie Gray.

    The board set the next meeting date for May 7, noon, at the central office.
