    Weekend events: Frankie Valli, KEM, Last Airbender at Peace Center; food trucks, pickleball

    It's a big weekend for concerts at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, with concerts by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Kem, The Last Airbender and Iris Dement. Other weekend events include a food truck festival, reading and signing events, pickleball tournaments, and live performances. Be sure to check out our weekend roundup below.

    Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

    Frankie Valli began his career with the Four Seasons, and he had solo success with countless hit singles. His hits include “Sherry,” “Walk Like A Man,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “December ‘63 - Oh What A Night,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” and of course, “Grease.”

    Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons have sold over 100 million records worldwide and will perform at The Last Encores at 8 p.m. Aug. 16. Tickets are $75-$105. Go to www.peacecenter.org to purchase tickets and for more information.

    KEM in concert

    R&B singer-songwriter Kem will be in concert at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Peace Center Concert Hall. Tickets are $65-$125.

    The Detroit native's hits include “Love Calls.”  His five albums have sold more than 2.9 million units. KEM has received three Grammy nominations, two NAACP Image Awards, two Soul Train Awards, and a BET Centric Award.

    The Last Airbender

    Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert presents a live orchestral rendition of the iconic soundtrack at the Peace Center in Greenville. The concert is paired with a nearly two-hour special recap of the animated series' three seasons displayed on a full-size cinema screen. The projection will feature the original dialogue and sound effects without any pre-recorded music, allowing the live orchestra to perform the legendary score live and perfectly sync with the show scenes.

    Iris DeMent

    Iris DeMent's debut record "Infamous Angel," recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and was recently named one of the “greatest country albums of all time” by Rolling Stone . Her two follow-up albums, " My Life" and "The Way I Should ," wer e nominated for Grammys.

    Other career highlights include her music being used in the film "True Grit," and the TV series "The Leftovers." She received the Americana Music Trailblazer Award in 2017.

    Food Truck Rollout

    Are you a foodie who enjoys food trucks? Consider checking out the Food Truck Rollout on Friday, August 16, from 5-8 p.m. at 301 E. Poinsett St. in the City of Greer. The event will feature local food trucks, live music, and refreshing brews. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and chairs.

    The city of Greer sponsors the Food Truck Rollout. A parent or legal guardian must accompany children aged 16 and under during these events. Also, no smoking and no pets are permitted.

    Shrimp Festival 2024

    Seafood lovers, the Shrimp Festival is back. This year, it kicks off on Saturday, August 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Campfire Campus, 1105 W Bramlett Road Studio 1003 in Greenville. Ticket prices are $45 and up per person.

    The event will feature live music, activities, and showcases of local culinary talent. This year, 15 local chefs will participate, each bringing their shrimp creations to the festival. The shrimp festival supports various nonprofits annually, and this year, it is proud to partner with Defenders for Children , donating a portion of the profits to support their vital work.

    Book signing

    Author Zachary Verno n will be at Hub City Bookshop at 186 W. Main St. , Spartanburg, on Friday, August 16, from 6-7 p.m.

    Vernon will be at the Bookshop to discuss his new young adult novel Our Bodies Electric.

    Pickleball Tournament

    If you are good at pickleball, consider signing up for a pickleball tournament that benefits Help for the Elderly , a nonprofit in Spartanburg that assists low-income and elderly residents.

    The event will be held at the Spartanburg Athletic Club, located at 2420 Andrews Road , Spartanburg, on Saturday, August 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tournament will feature women's, men's, and mixed doubles divisions for levels 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0+. A Pool will be open for everyone to cool off afterward, and drinks and food trucks will be on site.

    Fish Out of Water

    Do you enjoy classic rock music? Consider checking out the Fish Out of Water Band performing at the Vine Barrel at 3737 Highway 81 North in Anderson from 6-9 p.m. Friday.

    The event will be held outdoors on the lawn, and attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs. The Taste of Freedom food truck will be on-site, offering a full menu of flatbreads, appetizers, desserts, and drinks . This event is also dog-friendly outside.

    Upstate Fam Festival

    If you want a family-friendly gathering in the Pendleton area, consider the Upstate Fam Festival at Liberty Hall Bed and Breakfast, 621 S. Mechanic St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

    Savannah Dutton sponsors the event and will feature live music, kids' zones, food trucks, and more.
