Ann Arbor Art Fair dedicates ‘Tree of life’ sculpture to the city
ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Art Fair purchased and dedicated a sculpture to the city of Ann Arbor for its annual collaboration and in honor of the city’s bicentennial. The fair purchased a sculpture titled “Tree of life” by Ohio artist Richard Alan Morgan. The sculpture will be installed at the corner of State Street and North University Avenue.

Banning renter background checks draws pushback from landlords, support from ex-offenders
YPSILANTI, MI – Landlords are pushing against a proposed ordinance banning criminal background checks of Ypsilanti renters, with few exceptions. “This compromises the safety of existing tenants, children, our neighbors and our community at large,” said Mike Eller, who said he is a local landlord and lifetime resident. “There is an expectation that we as landlords do our due diligence in creating a safe community for them, and this takes that away from us.”
FBI reopens cold case into woman last seen in Michigan in 1987
ROSCOMMON, MI – The FBI has reopened a cold case involving a woman who went missing while traveling in Michigan in the summer of 1987. Cassandra Durham was 19 years old when she went missing while traveling with her boyfriend from Baltimore to Roscommon to visit the boyfriend’s grandparents.
Hillsdale sergeant accused of repeatedly pepper spraying restrained inmate heads to trial
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – A Hillsdale County Sheriff’s sergeant accused of assaulting a female inmate in the county jail is heading to trial. Sgt. Ronald Leggitt, 43, of Marshall waived his right to a preliminary examination Wednesday, July 17, sending his case to the Hillsdale County Circuit Court. He allegedly repeatedly pepper sprayed a female jail inmate in the face only inches away from her eyes while she was restrained, according to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Art Fair begins this weekend, and festivities kicked off Tuesday. The Dart for Art event on N. University Avenue drew runners for three races: a half mile for kids, a one-mile for elite runners and a one-mile for community members of all ages. Fire in Ypsilanti-area home causes $50K in damages
