The hills are alive with ... mystery. Everyone can agree that the Hocking River Valley is full of beautiful hills. But how many are aware of the trails that followed, crossed and avoided those hills for thousands of years?

Patricia Anderson will speak at the Lyceum Brown Bag Luncheon Speaker Series at noon May 16 at the Southeast Ohio History Center, 24 W. State St., Athens. Anderson will discuss Indian Trails of Southeast Ohio and transportation options in the early days of the region where Ohio began.

Anderson, a volunteer at Little Cities of Black Diamonds and a graduate of Zane State with an Associate’s Degree in Parks, Recreation, and Wildlife, and Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources: Instructional Interpretation, has had a long interest in the Native American people. In 2017, she met the challenge of preparing an exhibit on the trails of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds region. Continuing her research today, she has found more than 30 trails of the region, some in the most surprising and interesting places. She is always happy to share her findings with others and always interested in learning from others as well.

The Southeast Ohio History Center offers limited parking in the rear off of North Congress Street. The Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series is scheduled for the third Thursdays of the month.
