Organic peroxide leaked from a truck onto an I-75 exit ramp in Henry County on Thursday night, causing all lanes of the interstate to close until early Friday.

The incident was reported at Exit 222 (Jodeco Road) around 11:30 p.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. A hazmat crew was called in to clean it up, Henry County fire officials said. At one point, both northbound and southbound lanes were closed.

Organic peroxide has a variety of uses, including in the production of fiberglass and reinforced plastics, according to the American Chemistry Council.

Henry fire Capt. Craig Hutter said his department controlled the runoff and diluted the spilled material with water, per the shipping instructions provided by the manufacturer.

No injuries were reported. Shortly before 6 a.m., traffic was moving again.

Authorities have not released information about what caused the spill.
