At least one person is dead and another injured after a road rage incident led to two shootings in west Midtown, Atlanta police said.

A 28-year-old man was driving northbound on Northside Drive when he appeared to get into a road rage incident between the intersections of Marietta Street and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. The suspect fired at another vehicle, injuring a 51-year-old man, according to officials.

The suspect then continued to travel northbound on Northside Drive, where he crashed less than half a mile away at the intersection of 10th Street. He fired shots at a red vehicle before shooting and killing himself, authorities said.

Georgia Tech police joined Atlanta police in responding to the second shooting, which occurred less than a quarter-mile from campus. Neither the suspect nor the victim is affiliated with the university, according to officials.

The university sent out an alert to students and faculty, informing them of the police presence and letting them know that there was no threat to the university.

“This was quickly seen as something that was isolated and didn’t go onto campus,” a spokesman for the university said.

It is unclear what led to road rage that prompted the shootings. The identities of the suspect and victim have not been released.
