Results: Augusta-area high school football scoreboard for Week 1

The early morning summer workouts and practices in the Georgia heat have been leading up to this week.

It's the first high school football Friday night in Augusta. The dress rehearsals are over. The scores matter and, while many teams are still figuring out what they have, this is the first week of a nearly four-month march to the state championship games in December.

While it's just the first week, there are some big local matchups on deck . Cross Creek and Josey face one another in one of two Augusta games, the other Westside at Laney. Richmond Academy travels to Burke County as Evans hosts Thomson. Columbia county rivals Lakeside and Grovetown square off in the first non-region matchup between the two schools, and Harlem travels to Greenbrier. To top it all off, Augusta Christian travels to Lincoln County.

Note that the Augusta Eagles canceled their season-opener against Westminster Schools of Augusta, according to WSA coach Chris Murphey.
