Stabbing involving 'several' inmates at Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office confirmed a stabbing Thursday involving multiple inmates at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Richmond County deputies responded to the detention center at 10 a.m. Thursday for an aggravated assault incident between "several" inmates, according to a news release sent out at about 5:45 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they realized a stabbing occurred and requested that the Criminal Investigation Division respond, according to the release.

It is unclear if any injuries occurred, how many weapons were involved, how many inmates were involved, and if any inmates have been charged in connection to the incident.

"Investigators are actively investigating this incident and no further information is available at this time," according to sheriff's officials.
