Fall back: New eatery still is coming to Evans, just later than expected

A new restaurant planned for Columbia County now has a new opening date.

The Augusta Chronicle first reported in May that restaurateurs Shawn and Katy Ledford are planning Towne Center Tavern, an American-style family gathering place. The Ledfords have operated Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurants in Augusta and Evans since 2002.

The tavern is expected to occupy a ground-level corner suite in The Meybohm Building at The Plaza, a mixed-use building across from Evans Towne Center Park. The suite was occupied by Stay Social Tap and Table, a casual café and taproom that closed closed at the end of 2022.

The Ledfords hoped to open the establishment before Thanksgiving, but the timeline has since changed to late December or early January, according to online news site Business Debut.

Towne Center Tavern will feature "a deliciously curated menu that blends classic favorites in an inviting and warm tavern environment designed for the whole family to enjoy," real estate company Meybohm Commercial said in May.

Local performers often will provide live music at the tavern, which will seat 60 inside and another 25 on its patio.
