Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a brawl Monday night involving two women and a child at the Circle K on Columbia Road in Martinez.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to the Circle K after a woman reported she was attacked by a clerk, according to an incident report from the sheriff's office.

The woman told deputies she and her 12-year-old son purchased a fountain drink from the store and as they were leaving, her son dropped the drink, according to the report. The woman said she went back in to make another one and then left the store.

The woman said the Circle K clerk, a 24-year-old woman, yelled from the door asking if she was going to pay, according to the report. The woman walked back into the store to say that she already paid for a drink at the self-checkout.

The two women argued at the register before the woman who had the drink threw it in the clerk's face, according to the report.

Deputies noted video footage showed the clerk putting her hand up to try to block the drink from hitting her and then running after the woman and hitting her in the face, according to the report. A physical altercation ensued outside, in front of the entrance, and moments later the 12-year-old got out of the car, striking the clerk several times in the face and stomping on her.

The fight was broken up by several customers in the area, according to the report.

Deputies noted the clerk had a cut on the inside of her lip and the woman had a bump above her left eyebrow, according to the report. Both women refused EMS.

The clerk told deputies she did not wish to prosecute and signed a waiver of prosecution, according to the report. The woman was trespassed from the store and told if she returned, she could be charged with criminal trespass.

Customer culture was just make a free drink and not only not take responsibility for her kid’s mistake, she didn’t even care to acknowledge it. I would bet there wouldn’t have been an issue if she had acknowledged it and her kid at least apologized. Good parenting just teaching her kid to do what he wants.
