The Columbia County School District recently released a statement ahead of Homecoming dances this weekend, assuring parents the district has a strategic safety plan to ensure student safety.

Lakeside High School and Grovetown High School will host their dances Saturday night, with Greenbrier High School following on Tuesday night.

Staff, school resource officers and vetted parent volunteers will use strategic supervision and safety plans to ensure students are properly monitored throughout the entirety of the event, according to the district.

School officials noted students are expected to maintain proper decorum while attending any school event in accordance with the school code of conduct.

"Safety of students and staff is a top priority and this extends to all school events that take place outside of normal school hours," according to the district. "... We want to ensure our students are free from distraction during these important events. Our staff continues to work hard to ensure safety of our students so they can continue to make memories that will last a lifetime with their classmates in a safe, positive environment."
