Two Baltimore deaths have been deemed homicides: a man who was shot Wednesday and a 16-year-old who died in January, Baltimore Police said Monday.

The shooting victim, identified as 25-year-old Darius Neal, died “several days” after being injured in the 400 block of Yale Avenue in Southwest Baltimore’s Irvington neighborhood, police said.

Officers had located Neal while responding to reports of a shooting at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police also said Monday that homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 16-year-old who had suffered from a medical emergency in January.

The teen, Jibreal Payne, had been found unresponsive Jan. 27 as police and fire crews responded to the 400 block of North Clinton Street in the Ellwood Park/Monument neighborhood. He appeared to have burn marks and was taken to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide last week after conducting an autopsy.

A spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office said that the teen’s death had been ruled a homicide due to the investigation but would not release a specific cause of death.

Those with information on either case are asked to contact homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
