A farm brewery in Frederick County is temporarily closed after a fire ripped through the taproom early Thursday, causing an estimated $800,000 in damage.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services said in a news release that firefighters responded at 3:30 a.m. Thursday to the fire at Red Shedman, the brewery located at Linganore Winecellars winery in Mount Airy.

Heavy fire was showing at the brewery on a large swath of farmland at 13601 Glissans Mill Road, and 45 total firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours, remaining on the scene for five more to wet down hotspots, the agency said.

The county fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire, which prompted a “total loss” of the building.

The brewery said in a statement that nobody was in the brewery during the “devastating fire” in its taproom.

“Due to the extent of the damage, Red Shedman Farm Brewery will be closed for the foreseeable future as we assess the situation,” the brewery said. Linganore Winecellars operations were not affected and will remain “open as normal.”
