BATTLE CREEK - The fans have spoken.

The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Ryan Casterline of the St. Philip boys track team.

Fans got behind Casterline to help him edge finalists Mia Helbing, Avery Moran and Joey Mario. Casterline received 48 percent of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to his fans, he will receive an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt.

St. Philip's Casterline had an impressive day at the Division 4 regionals, qualifying in four events for the upcoming MHSAA state track finals. Casterline was the anchor leg on the first-place 3,200 relay, with a school record time of 8:21.67 - breaking the old record set in 1970. He was joined by Luke Sprague, Colt Myers and Max Shugars. He also took first in the 400 and was a member of state-qualifying relay teams in the 800 and the 400.

"Ryan is a great athlete to coach. He works hard at practice and that paid off last week. At regionals he was able to find another gear that we hadn't seen this season and helped qualify three relays to the state finals as well as going as an individual in the 400," St. Philip coach Jeff Minier said.

The Battle Creek Enquirer Athlete of the Week is presented by Oaklawn Hospital. To submit a nominee for Athlete of the Week, email bcesports@battlecreekenquirer.com.
