BATTLE CREEK - Down six strokes heading into Day 2, Ben Anderson wasn't thinking about winning the Cal-Am.

Which is maybe why he won the Cal-Am.

Anderson rallied on the final 18 holes to earn a come-from-behind victory to finish as champion of the 47th annual Calhoun County Amateur Golf Championship at Binder Park Golf Course on Sunday.

Anderson edged defending champ Chris Voegler in a one-hole playoff to take first as the two golfers tied at 143 after regulation play.

Anderson trailed first-place Voegler after the first round by six strokes after shooing a 73 on Day 1. He shot a 35 on the front nine on Day 2 to get back into the running. He finished with a 70 on Sunday to tie Voegler, who had a 76 for his second round.

"100 percent... I was not worried about winning after my first round, being that far back. I started out thinking, maybe I'll just try to win some skin money today, Anderson said. "But, then I kinda fell into a shootout and won it from there."

Anderson had a par on the first playoff hole as Voegler three-putted for a bogey.

Anderson, a member of a high school state championship team with Lakeview as a senior in 2008, won the Cal-Am for the first time.

"After finishing second so many times, it was good to finally win this," said Anderson, who has been runner-up in the tournament twice.

Voegler, who won the event for the first time last year, shot a 67 in the first round to take a three-shot lead over the field on Saturday.

"There was a little pressure being the defending champ, but I think I held my own," Voegler said. "Today, I hit a tree on the first hold and got off to a rough start. But I got back on track on the back nine and got at least a playoff out of it, so that was good."

Paul Koski, who was tied for second after Day 1, shot a 74 in the second round to finish third overall with a two-day total of 144. Tyler Shore was fourth at 145.

Scott Hodoval finished first in the Senior Division with a score of 145 with Mike Raymond second, one stroke back, at 146, and Steve Martin taking third at 149.

Mike Sequite won the Super Seniors division with a score of 149 with Roger Kuhl second at 152.
