With several local athletes competing in the summer Olympics in Paris, readers across Oregon are rooting for Team USA.

We asked our readers which sports they love to watch the most. Classics like soccer, diving and basketball made the top 10 list, but readers were mostly drawn to the most popular Olympics sports: Gymnastics, swimming, and track and field.

All told, nearly half of our respondents said they love to watch at least one of the various styles of gymnastics — either "artistic gymnastics," which includes events like the uneven bars and floor exercise, or "rhythmic gymnastics" where athletes show off their skills with ribbons, balls and other apparatus.

Swimming was also extremely popular, with about one-quarter of our readers saying they love to watch Team USA compete in the pool.

"I grew up as a competitive swimmer," one reader told us. "I think it's exciting to watch."

Track and field events, known in the Olympics as "Athletics" also scored highly, as did both beach and indoor volleyball.

Not surprisingly, many of the top-ranked sports readers say they love to watch are also areas Team USA thrives, and which had local athletes competing .

America was a major competitor in artistic gymnastics, bringing home 10 medals, including gold for the U.S. women's team in the all-around competition, and the men brought home a bronze medal in the team all-around, making the podium for the first time in over a decade.

Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, brought home three individual medals (two golds and a silver), alongside her teammates. Two gymnasts with Oregon connections, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, also brought home medals from individual competitions. Chiles, a Vancouver, Washington-native, brought home bronze in the floor exercise, and Oregon State University gymnast Jade Carey brought home a bronze in the Vault competition . Other Team USA gymnasts Stephen Nedoroscik and Suni Lee also brought home bronze medals.

Across Paris, in athletics, Oregonian Ryan Crouser took his third gold in the shot put . Crouser, widely considered to be the greatest in the sport, was raised in Boring and graduated from Sam Barlow High School.
