The report of a burglary in progress in a duplex on Friday, August 9, sent numerous East Precinct officers 1:06 p.m. to a spot along S.E. 70th Avenue, just south of Powell Boulevard

Soon a total of 13 officers, including two PPB K-9 units and three Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at both the front and back of the duplex reportedly being burglarized.

A neighbor confirmed to THE BEE seeing “at least three people” breaking into a basement window to slip into the duplex.

For more than an hour, officers loud-hailed for anyone in the building to come out and show themselves.

“Officers did respond to reports that several people broke into the basement of a home,” confirmed PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner. “Officers searched the basement, and the area, and found nobody.”

Evidently the thieves had finished and left in the moments before officers arrived. There is no public report on what might have been taken, but the case is still open.
