ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - The Humane Society of St. Joseph County is urgently seeking foster homes for a significant influx of rescued cats and kittens. In what the organization describes as a crisis, 115 cats have been rescued in the past ten days, with more than half originating from just three homes.

The shelter is nearing its full capacity and is making a heartfelt plea to the community to help provide temporary homes for these felines. The influx has overwhelmed the shelter’s resources, prompting even staff members to take kittens into their own homes.

Genny Brown, Executive Director of the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, emphasized the severity of the situation. "With our shelter almost completely full, even our own staff members have taken kittens home," she said. "We are in desperate need of foster families who can provide care and love to these animals during this critical time."

The Humane Society ensures that all food and associated costs will be covered for foster families. The only requirement for potential foster caregivers is to provide a safe and loving environment for these cats and kittens.

This appeal highlights the ongoing need for community support in animal rescue efforts. Fostering not only provides immediate relief to overcrowded shelters but also offers the animals a nurturing environment while they await permanent homes.

For those interested in helping, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County is ready to assist with the fostering process. By opening your home temporarily, you can make a significant difference in the lives of these rescued animals.

For more information on how to become a foster parent for these cats and kittens, please contact the Humane Society of St. Joseph County directly. Your support can help alleviate this urgent crisis and provide much-needed care to these furry friends.
