SOUTH BEND, IN — Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) embarks on a pivotal journey to find its next leader as Chancellor Susan Elrod plans to retire in December 2024. A new search committee has been appointed to guide this transition, marking a significant moment in the university's evolution.

Chancellor Elrod, who has led IUSB since 2019, has been a transformative force for the campus. Under her stewardship, IUSB implemented a bold strategic plan and embarked on key initiatives aimed at enhancing educational outcomes and community impact in north central Indiana.

Reflecting on her tenure, Elrod expressed pride in the university's advancements. “Together, we’ve strengthened IU South Bend, amplifying its role as a beacon of education, social mobility, and community service,” she said. “I am committed to ensuring a seamless leadership transition and eagerly anticipate the continued growth and success of the campus.”

With approximately 4,500 students, IUSB offers a range of undergraduate and master’s programs across six schools and the IU School of Social Work. As the search for a new chancellor unfolds, the university community and stakeholders will be watching closely to see who will steer IUSB into its next chapter.

The new leader will face the challenge of building on Elrod's legacy while navigating the evolving needs of the institution and its diverse student body. The search committee's work will be crucial in identifying a candidate capable of sustaining and advancing IUSB’s mission.
