Mishawaka, Indiana—The Mishawaka Police Department (MPD) is preparing for a significant leadership change as Investigative Division Chief Dan Gebo announced his retirement after 27 years of dedicated service. This announcement comes just days after MPD Chief Ken Witkowski Jr. revealed his own plans to retire, marking the end of an era for the department.

Chief Gebo, whose last day will be August 27, leaves behind a legacy of steadfast commitment and leadership within the department. However, his retirement doesn't mean he’ll be stepping away from public service entirely. Gebo will continue to serve the Mishawaka community as a reserve officer, taking on the vital role of School Resource Officer for School City of Mishawaka.

Gebo’s career with MPD began in the Uniform Division, where he quickly established himself as a dedicated officer. His expertise and passion for community policing led to his transfer to the Neighborhood Enforcement Team (NET), a unit focused on addressing local crime and community concerns. In 2003, his leadership was recognized with a promotion to Sergeant of the NET Unit, and just a year later, he advanced to Captain of the unit, further solidifying his reputation as a capable and respected leader.

In 2011, Gebo’s career reached a new milestone when he was appointed as Investigative Division Chief. In this role, he oversaw complex investigations and played a key part in shaping the department's approach to law enforcement in Mishawaka.

As the MPD prepares for this transition, the community can rest assured that Chief Gebo’s influence will continue to be felt, particularly within the schools, where his presence as a School Resource Officer will contribute to the safety and well-being of Mishawaka’s students.
