Indianapolis, IN — For over four decades, Debby Knox has been a comforting and reliable presence in the homes of countless Hoosiers. Now, the legendary news anchor has been honored with induction into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame, a testament to her enduring impact on the state’s broadcasting landscape.

Knox, along with five distinguished radio broadcasters, was inducted during a special luncheon on Tuesday, solidifying her place among the elite in Indiana’s broadcasting history.

“They are the best of the best, and we are delighted to recognize this class of top-tier broadcasters and community volunteers,” said Dave Arland, executive director of the Indiana Broadcasters Association. Knox’s recognition underscores her remarkable career and dedication to the craft of journalism.

Knox’s journey began in 1980 when she joined WISH-TV, quickly becoming a fixture on Indianapolis television screens. For 33 years, she served as the primary news anchor, guiding viewers through local and national events with poise and authority. Her initial retirement in 2013 marked the end of an era, but her passion for news pulled her back to the anchor desk just two years later.

In 2015, Knox played a pivotal role in launching CBS4-WTTV, teaming up with veteran anchor Bob Donaldson. Together, they shaped the station's identity and solidified its place in the competitive Indianapolis market. Knox’s second retirement in November 2023 was met with an outpouring of love and respect, as friends, family members, and state officials celebrated her storied career.

Throughout her time on air, Knox earned numerous accolades, including four Emmy Awards, reflecting her excellence in journalism. Her induction into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame ensures that her legacy will be remembered alongside the state's most esteemed broadcasters.

Knox was inducted alongside other notable figures, including Dennis Jon Bailey, a radio personality from WIKY Radio in Evansville; Ardath Burkhart, a civic leader and founder of Indianapolis Public TV broadcaster WFYI; Tony Lamont, a radio personality from WTLC Radio in Indianapolis; and Paul Page, a renowned broadcaster for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.

Knox’s legacy is one of dedication, integrity, and a deep connection to the community she served. Her contributions to Indiana broadcasting have left an indelible mark, inspiring future generations of journalists and broadcasters to follow in her footsteps.
