South Bend, Ind. — The City of South Bend has officially opened applications for the fifth year of its South Bend Alive Grant Program, aimed at awarding grants to local organizations dedicated to reducing violence through initiatives that positively impact young people.

“We must work together as a community to create opportunities, empower our youth, and reduce gun violence in our city,” said Mayor James Mueller. “This program will continue to uplift community partners who positively impact the lives of our young residents.”

Managed by the Office of Community Initiatives, the Alive Grant Program funds organizations that provide mentorship, employment opportunities, and engagement activities to young people. Grantees for this year can receive up to $25,000 each to support their work.

“As we enter our fifth year, I am thrilled to announce another incredible opportunity for our community to apply for grant dollars,” said Chief Community Officer Maurice “Moe” Scott. “These dollars are dedicated to continuing our essential work of empowering our neighborhoods through innovative violence prevention programs, projects, and events. This initiative reflects our steadfast commitment to foster a safer, stronger, and more united community. We encourage all passionate individuals and organizations to participate in this impactful cause. Together, we can build on our progress and create meaningful change for a brighter future.”

Applications for the 2024 Alive Grant Program are open from September 9 through October 14, 2024. Organizations interested in applying must complete the grant application, which is available on the City of South Bend's official website.

Youth violence prevention starts with having 2 parents teaching their children right from wrong from day one. Throwing borrowed grant money at a project is not going to solve the problem. Until parents go back to the way we used to raise children, the out of control violence will continue. Don't raise your family in a violent environment in the first place.
