In a game that highlighted both triumph and heartache, the Indiana Fever's Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark stole the spotlight despite their team’s 78-74 defeat to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday.

While Clark captivated fans with a record-setting performance, becoming the WNBA’s single-season assist leader, it was Mitchell’s accomplishment that underscored her pivotal role in the Fever's lineup. The two-time All-Star guard etched her name into Fever history by surpassing her own record for the most points in a single season. Mitchell’s impressive 20-point showing against the Aces brought her season total to 733, setting a new benchmark for the franchise.

The Fever announced Mitchell's milestone via X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the game, celebrating her extraordinary achievement amidst the backdrop of a hard-fought contest.

Despite their personal successes, both Mitchell and Clark faced the sting of defeat as the Aces, the two-time defending champions, secured their second victory over the Fever in a week. The Aces had previously triumphed 86-75 in their earlier encounter on Wednesday.

Mitchell’s historic night stands as a testament to her dedication and skill, even as the Fever continue their quest to challenge the Aces' dominance in the league.
