In a bid to raise awareness and fight the ongoing mental health crisis, the Suicide Prevention Center in South Bend will host its annual "Race to Save Lives" event next month. This crucial initiative aims to shed light on the growing issue of suicide, promote prevention strategies, and foster a sense of community support for those impacted by mental health struggles.

The event is scheduled for October 21, 2024, and will take place at Howard Park in South Bend. Participants can choose between a 5K run/walk or a 10K race, with proceeds going directly toward the Center's efforts to provide counseling services, educational programs, and outreach to vulnerable populations.

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, over 48,000 people in the United States die by suicide each year, making it one of the leading causes of death across all age groups. The Race to Save Lives serves as both a fundraiser and a rallying point for those advocating for increased mental health support and intervention.

The event will feature local guest speakers, including mental health advocates and survivors who will share their personal stories of struggle, hope, and recovery. In addition to the races, participants will have the opportunity to engage in wellness activities, access mental health resources, and connect with local organizations providing ongoing support.

Early registration is open, and community members are encouraged to form teams or participate individually. The Suicide Prevention Center hopes to foster open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and encourage those in need to seek help.

For those who cannot attend but wish to support the cause, donations can be made directly through the Center's website. The goal is to bring together people from all walks of life to stand united against the mental health crisis.

    Registration Details:

    • Date: October 21, 2024
    • Location: Howard Park, South Bend
    • Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
    • Registration: Available online or on-site the day of the event

This race offers more than just a way to get active—it serves as a powerful reminder that every step can make a difference in someone's life.
