In a vibrant celebration of community and commerce, Mishawaka officially launched its Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. This new initiative is set to invigorate the downtown scene, attracting locals and visitors alike.

After months of planning, businesses in the area are optimistic about the potential of DORA to enhance foot traffic. William John, the general manager of Mishawaka Public House, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, emphasizing its uniqueness to downtown Mishawaka. “This is a chance for everyone to come down, enjoy the weather, and buy a beverage while exploring the area,” he noted.

DORA allows patrons to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating establishments—Sun King Brewery, Social Cantina, and Mishawaka Public House—and enjoy them outdoors within designated zones. To partake, guests must use specially marked cups provided by these restaurants, ensuring a festive yet responsible atmosphere.

John believes this initiative will draw more attention to the downtown area, fostering a social environment rather than a raucous party scene. “I think it’s more about socializing—letting people stroll around with their drinks and explore all the great offerings here,” he added.

With DORA now open, residents are invited to enjoy the fresh air and local flavors all year round, marking a significant step in Mishawaka's efforts to revitalize its downtown area and enhance community connections.
