SOUTH BEND — The remnants of Hurricane Helene, recently upgraded from a storm, are set to bring occasional showers to the South Bend area this weekend. The wet weather might make an appearance during Saturday’s highly anticipated football game between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Louisville at Notre Dame Stadium.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Helene is currently moving across the eastern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast late Thursday. Afterward, the storm is projected to weaken, pushing its rain north and west into Indiana.

Local Impact: Andrew Whitmyer, meteorologist at WNDU-TV, predicts that South Bend will experience hit-and-miss showers beginning Saturday and continuing through Monday. The intermittent rain will likely be light, but enough to potentially dampen outdoor activities, including the Notre Dame game.

    Forecast:

    • Thursday and Friday: Drier conditions are expected, with highs reaching the upper 70s to around 80°F.
    • Friday Night: Windy conditions are forecast, along with a 30% chance of showers.
    • Saturday and Sunday: South Bend will see a 30%-40% chance of scattered showers, thanks to the remnants of Helene.

While the storm’s rain won’t likely bring significant downpours, football fans and weekend planners should prepare for the occasional shower as South Bend experiences the storm’s weakening remnants.
