SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Parks department is excited to host “Girls Ambitious about Learning Science (GALS)” on October 5, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s County Park, located at 50651 Laurel Road. This engaging event features a mini-series of science programs specifically designed for girls in fifth through eighth grades.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from a diverse group of instructors:

    • Morgan Carr-Markell from Saint Mary’s College, who will discuss the importance of bees and pollinator foraging.
    • Madelynn Sinclair from the Chicago Field Museum, who will lead an exploration of Indiana’s native reptiles and amphibians.
    • Jennifer Tank from the University of Notre Dame, along with her research team, will guide attendees beneath the water’s surface to uncover aquatic insects and their role in indicating waterway health.

Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and wear hiking shoes for an enjoyable outdoor experience. The park will provide lunch and snacks to all participants.

Best of all, admission to this enriching event is free! However, registration is required and must be completed by October 1.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity for young girls to explore science and nature in a fun and interactive environment!
