Indiana State Sycamores Gear Up for a New Era in Women's Basketball

The 2024-25 season for the Indiana State Sycamores promises a fresh chapter as they gear up to take on a challenging Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) slate. As the team opens their league schedule on December 29 against Northern Iowa, they’ll do so with new head coach Marc Mitchell at the helm, ushering in a season that embodies transformation and ambition.

After an extensive offseason of preparation, the Sycamores are poised to make their mark in MVC play. Mitchell, backed by a completely new coaching staff and six fresh recruits, aims to elevate the program. "This season represents a shift in how we compete and build a legacy," Mitchell has stated in his early outlook .

A Season of Challenges and Opportunity

The Sycamores face a rigorous schedule, starting January with back-to-back road games at Illinois State (Jan. 2) and Bradley (Jan. 5). A pivotal home stretch follows, with three consecutive games at Hulman Center, where they will square off against in-state rival Evansville (Jan. 12), Southern Illinois (Jan. 16), and Missouri State (Jan. 19). These matchups will serve as a litmus test for Indiana State’s postseason ambitions.

As the season progresses, Indiana State embarks on a demanding four-game road trip, including a critical clash with defending MVC champions Drake on February 27. This stretch could prove decisive as the Sycamores look to solidify their standing in the MVC before returning home for their final regular-season games against Belmont (Mar. 6) and Murray State (Mar. 8).

    Pushing Beyond the Hardwood

This season isn't just about wins and losses—it’s about changing the narrative for Indiana State women’s basketball. With Mitchell’s arrival, the program seeks not only to compete but to build a culture of excellence. "We’re not here to just play basketball; we’re here to challenge norms and redefine what’s possible for this team," Mitchell added .

With nine returning players, the Sycamores will blend experience with the fresh energy of their newcomers, some of whom will be counted on to make immediate impacts. The Trees will need this balance to navigate their grueling conference schedule, which culminates at the MVC Tournament in Evansville from March 13-16, 2025.

Engaging the Community and Building a Legacy

For fans and the Terre Haute community, the Sycamores offer a product that goes beyond entertainment. Season tickets start at $40, making Indiana State basketball accessible to all who want to support the team’s journey. According to Grant Manning, assistant manager of athletic ticketing, the goal is to pack the Hulman Center for every game. “We want the community to feel like they’re part of something special,” Manning shared .

    A Story to Watch

Indiana State's 2024-25 campaign isn't just a season—it's the unfolding of a story where a new coach, a rebuilt team, and a passionate fanbase come together in pursuit of a shared vision. With each game, the Sycamores are writing the next chapter in their legacy.
