Mishawaka's Central Park was filled with a sense of solidarity this weekend as dozens of participants took part in the 2nd Annual "Michiana Walk for Alopecia", a 3-mile walk along the scenic Riverwalk. The event aims to raise both awareness and funds for those living with alopecia, an autoimmune disease affecting nearly 700,000 people in the United States.

Jennifer Leahy, the event organizer, emphasized the importance of building a supportive community. "I want people to feel comfortable and know they're not alone. Alopecia doesn’t hurt, it’s not contagious, and I hope others feel confident no matter how they look or feel," Leahy shared during the walk.

With a fundraising goal of $2,000, the event has already collected over $1,900, including $400 raised at the walk itself. This growing initiative not only brings financial support but also fosters connections between individuals who share similar experiences.

The Michiana Walk for Alopecia continues to challenge societal perceptions and inspire confidence among those affected, reminding them that they are never alone in their journey.
