In a significant development for Indiana shoppers, Big Lots has announced yet another wave of store closures across the state. Locations in Indianapolis, Crawfordsville, Evansville, and Noblesville are set to close their doors as part of the retailer's broader strategy to reduce its footprint.

This recent decision follows an earlier announcement in July when Big Lots identified two Indiana stores for closure. The company had plans to shut down up to 40 stores nationwide, with a commitment to open only three new locations.

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Big Lots intends to close between 35 and 40 stores this year while strategically opening a limited number of new ones. Here’s a detailed look at the Indiana locations impacted:

    Recent Store Closures

    • 1424 Darlington Ave., Crawfordsville
    • 410 E. Diamond Ave., Evansville
    • 6225 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis
    • 1930 E. Connor St., Noblesville

    Previously announced closures include:

    • 2136 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo
    • 8401 Michigan Road, Indianapolis
    • 138 W. Hively Ave., Elkhart
    • 3958 Illinois Road, Fort Wayne
    • 1806 Frontage Road, Warsaw

Other Big Lots Locations in Indiana

Despite these closures, several Big Lots stores will remain operational throughout Indiana, providing communities with continued access to discounted retail options. Here’s a selection of locations still open:

    • 5520 Madison Ave., Indianapolis
    • 1650 E. County Line Road, Indianapolis
    • 720 S. Green River Road, Evansville
    • 3050 S. 22nd St., Lafayette
    • 1911 E. Ireland Road, South Bend

    Looking Ahead

The decision to close these stores marks a critical transition for Big Lots as it adapts to changing retail landscapes and consumer behaviors. As communities navigate the impact of these closures, it remains vital to explore new opportunities for local businesses and support systems that can thrive in this evolving market.

With the landscape of retail constantly shifting, it is essential to stay informed about local business developments. The closure of Big Lots locations serves as a reminder of the importance of community support for local retailers, as they strive to meet the needs and expectations of consumers.

This is very sad so many businesses that we all like and I’ve had for so long our closing their doors either for crime or because things are so expensive that we cannot buy things like we once could.
