INDIANAPOLISPurdue football’s recruiting momentum is faltering as the Boilermakers grapple with a disheartening season. The latest blow comes from Antioch, Tennessee, where three-star offensive lineman Ta'Khyian Whitset announced he is reopening his recruitment, having been committed to Purdue since April 30.

Whitset’s decision follows a string of decommitments, including Hammond Morton receiver Lebron Hill and Columbus, Ohio, cornerback Dawayne Galloway Jr., who both backed off their pledges in the past week. Last week, Downey, California quarterback Oscar Rios also decided to part ways with the Boilermakers, compounding concerns about the 2025 class.

The wave of decommitments coincides with Purdue's ongoing struggles on the field. The team is currently mired in a four-game losing streak, highlighted by a dismal 52-6 defeat to Wisconsin and a staggering 66-7 loss to Notre Dame. In response to the disappointing performance, head coach Ryan Walters made the tough call to fire offensive coordinator Graham Harrell after a third consecutive loss, a 28-10 setback against Nebraska.

As a result, Purdue’s 2025 recruiting class has dwindled to just 10 members, now ranking as the lowest in the Big Ten according to 247 Sports. Only two other Power Five programs, Vanderbilt and Colorado, rank lower in the composite rankings. Alarmingly, only two players in the class are listed among the national top 500 prospects.

Despite the challenges, the class does feature two other offensive linemen: Cameron Gorin from Hamilton Southeastern, son of former Purdue player Brandon Gorin, and Kuol Kuol from Centerville, Ohio. The Boilermakers will need to address their on-field performance to stabilize their recruiting efforts moving forward.
