Charlestown, IN — The U.S. Census Bureau is moving forward with plans to construct a new national processing center in Charlestown, Indiana. This new facility, located at 1751 Penny Martin Lane in the River Ridge Commerce Center, is set to streamline operations by consolidating all census activities under one roof.

The center will process all mail, surveys, and data collected during the census and is designed to adapt to the evolving needs of the Bureau. Transitioning from its current 80-acre campus in Jeffersonville, the new 340,000-square-foot building will accommodate approximately 600 employees.

Charlestown Mayor Treva Hodges expressed enthusiasm about the relocation, stating, “Charlestown proudly welcomes the U.S. Census Bureau as they transition to a new, state-of-the-art home. The retention of these 600 jobs showcases the appeal of our Southern Indiana communities.”

The move not only signifies growth for the Census Bureau but also aligns with the development of the River Ridge Commerce Center, which hosts various prominent companies, including Cheesecake Factory and CTDI. This transition is expected to enhance the local economy and foster collaboration among businesses in the area.

As the U.S. Census Bureau prepares for this significant change, further updates on the project's timeline and additional impacts on the community will be provided.
