NOTRE DAME, Ind. — In a strong show of confidence, Notre Dame women’s basketball has been named the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for the first time since 2018. The Irish secured an impressive 70 out of 79 first-place votes, reflecting their standing as a powerhouse in the conference.

    A Star Player Returns

Leading the charge is sophomore guard Hannah Hidalgo, who has been recognized as the Preseason ACC Player of the Year. Following a record-breaking freshman season, Hidalgo averaged 22.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, setting a new ACC freshman scoring record. Her defensive prowess was equally remarkable, as she led the nation with an average of 4.6 steals per game.

    Key Returning Players

Joining Hidalgo in the spotlight are returning guards Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron, both named to the Preseason All-ACC team. Miles is making a comeback after missing last season due to a knee injury, while Citron continues to be a vital contributor to the team’s success.

    New Additions and Fresh Talent

The Irish have also bolstered their roster with exciting new talent. Marquette transfer Liza Karlen, who averaged 17.7 points and 7.9 rebounds last season and earned unanimous All-Big East First Team honors, is expected to make an immediate impact. Additionally, five-star freshman Kate Koval, ranked as the No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2024 and a 2024 McDonald’s All-American, is on the ACC Newcomer Watch List.

    Looking Ahead

With a strong combination of seasoned players and promising newcomers, Notre Dame is poised for a competitive season. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the Irish will perform as they aim to reclaim their status at the top of the ACC.
