MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Habitat for Humanity has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art Home Ownership Training Facility in Mishawaka, marking a significant step forward in expanding its outreach and support for future homeowners. Situated along McKinley Highway, just east of the local fire station, the facility is set to serve between 750 and 1,000 individuals annually, offering vital education and resources for those seeking to own their own homes.

This new facility represents a major upgrade from Habitat for Humanity’s current space. According to Jim Williams, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity St. Joseph County, the center will be equipped to accommodate 75 to 100 participants at a time, compared to the modest 12-person capacity at their existing location.

"This Home Ownership Training Center is going to be the perfect location for us to do that. It’s also going to allow us to serve more families," said Williams during Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony. The expanded space will be a year-round resource, providing continuous training opportunities for aspiring homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity plans to streamline its educational process, offering 10 to 12-week homeownership training programs that will run throughout the year. Williams explained that these ongoing sessions aim to prepare participants with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve the dream of owning a home.

With the projected completion date set for April of next year, this new facility underscores Habitat for Humanity’s dedication to uplifting the community and empowering individuals through homeownership opportunities.
