Paramus Catholic senior wins inaugural Friends of the Fort Lee Library scholarship

Graduating senior Noah Kang from Paramus Catholic High School has been awarded the first “Friends of the Fort Lee Library” scholarship, a value of $500. The scholarship required applicants to be high school seniors with at least 75 service hours completed at the Fort Lee Public Library, and complete an essay.

“I wrote about how I believe that the library is a community which relies on the help of the people, and how my contribution of time not only benefited the library, it also benefited me greatly,” Kang wrote in an email to NorthJersey.com.

Kang completed 101 hours of community service at the library, and was unanimously voted to be the scholarship recipient.

“I was very honored and grateful for being the first ever recipient of this scholarship,” Kang wrote. “I hope that it can help financially support my undergraduate education at NYU, where I will be majoring in economics and pursuing the pre-med professional track. I want to thank the members of the Friends of the Fort Lee Public Library organization for their support and dedication to the library.”

Kang is also thankful for the help of Paramus Catholic High school, and appreciative of the resources available at the school.

“I want to help encourage other teens to begin volunteering for their community as I did for the library because it provides much-needed support for important places in the community,” Kang wrote. “In addition to that, there are opportunities such as this scholarship which can be available for supporting incoming college students on their undergraduate education.”
