A 26-year-old New York City man has been arrested and charged with shooting and killing his twin sister Thursday morning in Teaneck, officials said.

Jonathan D. Hagley is facing murder, weapons and obstructing justice charges, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office stated.

Authorities responded to Hickory Street in the township around 8:25 a.m. and found a woman, identified as Naomi Hagley, shot multiple times inside a home, the Prosecutor's Office said in a release. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

During the investigation, "first responders determined that the suspect was a family member who fled the scene," the prosecutor's office stated. Jonathan Hagley was found several blocks from the home by Bogota police officers and a handgun with "defaced serial numbers" was found at home, officials said

He was taken to Bergen County Jail in Hackensack while he awaits a detention hearing.

The prosecutor said Jonathan Hagley has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, second-degree certain persons not to have weapons or ammunition, third-degree possession of a defaced firearm, and fourth-degree obstructing justice.

Detectives from the Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Teaneck police, Bergen County sheriff's officers, Bogota police and first responders were at the crime scene.

This is the first homicide, murder or manslaughter, in Teaneck in three years. In June 2021, a 20-year-old township man was charged with murder after the shooting death of another 20-year-old man at Ammann Park, in a residential area on Fort Lee Road between Teaneck Road and Lees Avenue. In October 2019, a Bronx man was charged with aggravated manslaughter after he was accused of assaulting his twin babies in Teaneck. He was initially accused of assault, but police upgraded the charges after one of the infants died.
